Evaluation of Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) By-Products as Valuable and Sustainable Sources of Health Benefits

By-products from sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) oil extraction as the husk and shell are used low value fertilizer or animal feed. The nutritive values, antioxidant activities, phenolics, in vitro health-related activities of were investigated compared to increase their economic potential future food sources. Higher protein, carbohydrates, total dietary fiber content detected husk, while higher fat energy found shell. Several phenolics also both shell, with p-coumaric acid being most abundant phenolic caffeic husk. Total was 1.6-fold greater than leading 1.8–2.7-fold activity 1.2-fold anti-glycation activity. Various types quantities led diverse enzyme inhibitory Knowledge received this research might be useful maximize utilization by-products sources valuable nutritional compositions, health benefits. Further investigations on properties should include toxicity, bioaccessibility, vivo experiments.
